  Very exciting achievement. We have just deployed our integration with dbpedia, that will introduce item-based aspect to our recommendations. In this way, we might be able to filter out interests that we don't share with our friends and influencers and improve discovery of inherently interesting content.

  In basic words, that means that you will get the most relevant recommendation based on topics that we recognize from your individual and social user behaviour (content consumption).

  So for example: Kaixin001: China’s Apple of Social Networks. Noovo recognizes the following concepts in this story: world wide web, computing, business, industries, asia, social sciences, sociology, social systems, social networks.

  "The recommendations work great. Back in 1999 when we have started doing SEO we were always trying to hack how things worked behind the scenes. Now I have done a lot of experiments with Noovo like staring some posts on different field of interest that I am used to read or comment on some photos and I can see that you keep a good balance in your algorithm for the recommendations.
  
  But the best of all is that I discover new people. This is what I like most. One can say that you can discover new people on Facebook. But what is different here is that you discover them based on something Noovo knows that is interesting to you. So I see that your 2nd or 3rd degree network is getting connected with you very easy. For example on LinkedIn I can connect to 2nd or 3rd degree people through bridges that are actual people. On Noovo this bridge is the news item. And since the news keep coming, I extend my network and discover people a lot faster."

  Noovo is still in early stages of its development and I am happy to see you among it's first users.
  

  First of all, what Noovo isn't? Noovo is not a social network.

  So, what is Noovo all about?

  We created Noovo to solve our own problems of using the web- specifically, we were dreaming of a tool which could help us sift through all the information noise with the help of social recommendations and a service which could help us share any kind of content, in one place. All of which should be as simple as possible.
  

  What can you do on Noovo?

  1. Read the Cover page.

  First of all, you can start by reading the content on the cover page. The default view is called 'Recommended' and this is the magical bit. Click on the Lightbulb icon (Why did we recommend this?). Our algorithms analyze large amount of data and recommend you the most relevant content based on what we know about you and your behavior (articles that you click or comment on, what you vote, time that you spend on a particular page and so on). If you like the recommendation click Thumb Up, if you don't Thumb Down.

  Alternatively, you have the 'Hot' filter, the latter shows content with the fastest acceleration- which basically means we can predict which content has the likeliest chance of becoming popular.

  2. Configure your reader.

  On the cover page you can add pages with feeds, where you can follow your favorite blogs or news sources in it, add groups or people you discover wish to follow on Noovo. Based on what you read, you are going to influence other's people Cover page.  Discover sources which you had never heard of - just type in a category and you will be displayed with suggestions. We have a couple of thousands of different sources in Noovo  - from New York Times and wine blogs to design, architecture or just weird stuff. 

  If you like a story, a picture or a video, and have no time to read it, click on the Star icon to save it as  your favorite.
  

  You can also Share the story to your friends, even those who are not registered Noovo members. Another exciting feature is "Re-post to..." - you can take a story and republish it on your Noovo page with one click. All three buttons can be found on every content page before the comments.

  3. Customize your Profile and share your favorite content.

  Organize events, share files, post videos, picture or stories. Start a group. Change the design ('Design') and select which languages you want to read content in. If you are using Firefox,  go to Add Something page and install the "Take it to Noovo" or "Noovo Broadcaster" shortcut for quick adding link to articles from around the web.  Click 'Add widgets' on your profile or group page to add some additional boxes. Drag them with your mouse pointer to wherever you want - try the right column.

  You can share content publicly with the rest of the world, or only with selected friends. When you click on the Add something button, choose 'Who can see it?' preferences and choose those who you want to share it with. There is much more, but I don't want to spoil the game and will leave some of it for you to discover.

• Noovo version 0.9.3

   Yesterday we launched our most recent release that includes 92 improvements. Such as:

  • Recommendations are no longer beta! We have introduced an important change: whatever you read or respond to disappears within a minute, so you are always given something new. If you want to reach read stories, choose the Recommended (all) option in the filters.
  • Friend updates now contain a number of new actions, such as changed location, design and feed subscription.
  • Using the bookmarklet on Youtube (or funnyordie.com and now also vimeo.com) now directly ads video!
  • Taking, restricting and forwarding things (available on each detail page) no longer takes you to that pesky extra page.
  • Delete link on the detail pages works again.
  • When entering or editing the text of a story, you can now use a new button that determines where the text is going to be cut in abstracts around the site (just like in Wordpress).
  • Messages now travel faster from and to Twitter.
  • Presenting Suggested, Popular and New sources when managing your Radar makes more sense now. We are also friendlier when you have difficulties adding a website.
  • Editing of your comments is now fully supported.
  • As requested, the Discussion panel where you can keep track of reactions to your post or comments has been promoted in the sidebar on the cover.
  • Adding friends feels slightly nicer now, several pages received minor facelift, such as Photo set pages, message detail page and the People section. The latter and Groups no longer duplicate entries. Your favorites are now properly sorted, Noovo’s video player regained color scheme sensibility, rich comments are now nicer formatted.
  • Download link for files should always work now and files are accessible to their authors again, clicking on tags around Noovo is generally more reliable.

  We haven't told you anything about 0.9.1 (72 changes) and 0.9.2 (58 changes). But anyway, the next one is due soon.

  Released today, among 88 improvements are the following

  • Noovo became slightly faster
  • Services that process photos, fetching feeds etc has been upgraded and is even more reliable now
  • Collecting the same stories from various sources (clustering) has been improved, such strong posts influence recommendation more than earlier. In plain English: you might start seeing more mainstream stories.
  • Sometimes we were sending to daily summaries per day. Sorry, won’t happen again.
  • Wordpress connector was overzealously copying posts back and forth. We told it that “once is enough”
  • Tweets  from the Twitter connector no longer polute the main stream
  • Anonymous users see parts of the site that were unnecessarily hidden to them before
  • Finally, there is an easier way to organize photosets! Reorder button on your set pages now offers batch ordering by date taken and filename.
  • Mysterious links on the cover page (such as Rising) have tooltips now
  • The button in the message composition form says Send now
  • Bookmarklet (you can install it here) now opens the Body area even when you access the “Insert files, images or video”  area. This simplifies posting image-only links to Noovo.
  • Support for Chrome and Safari has been improved, especially with infinite scrolling on all pages
  • We improved our language detection so our international users will see less of the things they don’t wish to see
  • The summary telling you have many messages and invitations you have on the cover page has been redesigned
  • Restricting (who can see this, where is it published to) and taking content (republish to your Noovo) just became easier! Instead of painful redirection to a dedicated page everything can be done in a nifty drawer that is available on every page under the “Take it” or “Restrict” link.
  • There was a paranoid bug accessing private files (even the author couldn’t). It’s gone now.
  • We don’t import the same story twice from the same feed anymore

• Noovo version 0.8

  Released on September 12th, among 149 improvements were the following:

  • Finally, you can also log in with your email and don’t have to remember the username any more
  • In the Radar, your RSS feeds update more often. We improved suggesting you new sources.
  • Your Soulmates in People make more sense now
  • You can now forward by email anything you find on Noovo (open any public item, click on Forward button below content)
  • We added Invite your friends to the cover page and made it look the same on your Noovo
  • We improved security of things you share in groups
  • Messages now show the avatar of the correspondent
  • My discussions pane is now available on the cover page
  • Message detail page doesn’t list friends anymore (it will get the message navigator soon)
  • You can finally edit your comments! And you can’t duplicate a comment anymore by reloading the page
  • Notification mails were cleaned up
  • The form to add something communicates nicer about the tags, location and security in the yellow
  • When organizing events across the world, you can now also set the timezone
  • Images in the “Photo gallery widget” load faster now
  • The “Last visitors” widget now detects visitors that come to your sub pages as well
  • People can be invited to groups by mail as well

  Hi everyone. They told me to post this: 

  Before you is possibly the largest step in the recent evolution of Noovo. We have introduced no less than 220 significant changes and new features. Among the greatest are

  1. The new recommendation engine

  The cover page now suggests content that was recently interesting to your soulmates or relates to topic you have shown interest in before. Suggested entries are marked with a lightning icon. Click it to get an explanation of that suggestion and (if you want to) give Noovo feedback regarding its quality!

   

   2. Smoother browsing

  Every stream of content now just goes on. Instead of using subpages, Noovo now feeds content dynamically - you only need to keep scrolling! Also, comments can now entered without reloading the page.

   

  3. Reorganized Radar

  Big changes: the list of your subscriptions is right next to their content, as well as list of friends with their activities and list of groups with everything that was published in them. These feeds are accessible from the nifty accordion-like control on the cover as well.

   

  4. Wordpress and Blogger support!

  After we introduced the ability to add a connection to your Twitter account, we now support the same with Wordpress and Blogger. Configure your  accounts and keep your blogs in sync with Noovo; every time you publish something on Noovo, it will appear there and vice versa! Oh, and we fixed the pesky duplication of status messages that were broadcasted to Twitter (and then brought back).

   

  5. Better notifications

  You can now follow conversations not only by the people you know but also by the content you own! We now combine similar activities in Your Friends list better, don't tell you about the every single photo that was uploaded, really keep secrets about your private content, hide things that you don't wish to share any longer, tell about more actions than previously (e.g. changed avatar) and display the actual time of a meaningful change in your friend's profile. We are more precise in communicating invitations and friendships and don't mess with the links as much as before. We give you more control over what gets sent to your email. You can choose frequency or block message by activity type: messages, social gestures and all other activity.

   

  6. Some links and buttons moved

  We made the search box lighter, introduced your profile settings above it and combined your avatar with the My Noovo link directly in the navigation. Lists of people and groups are now accessible from the Cover section while their content flows into the new Radar. The Add something button has moved to the left (above actual content) and is now sensitive to where you call it from.

  
  Other changes and improvements

  Public pages

  • We have removed the little used “popular” view on the cover that now only appears to unregistered users and newbies
  • When a story from an external source is so short that it tells everything on the cover already, this is denoted with an arrow icon next to the “More” link that allows you to bypass Noovo’s internal page
  • Rich comments are displayed without unnecessary spacing, their entry form doesn’t ask you about tags and location anymore
  • Other sources of English stories are now better identified and combined. Links on More on these stories also work now.
  • When a particular story is for your eyes only, Noovo doesn’t fail to show the lock icon anymore and you are able to check who the other privileged users are
  • Navigators (lists containing links to other stories on a story page) now have a title that takes you to that previous page and they load faster. They use the infinite scrolling as well.
  • Last active and Popular (used to be Active) views in People again work as advertised
  • Content related to tags is now ordered chronologically, duplicate entries have been eradicated. We have also changed editing of tags: instead of adding and deleting them one-by-one, you can edit them all at once as is the case in all other editable fields. Now tags don’t fall apart if they contain exotic characters such as “š”
  • Newly added sets open directly within My Noovo again
  • Rotating of photos works again
  • Inline editing of events now handles timezone information properly

  Adding stuff

  • Publishing form is now much faster
  • When you try to enter link to the same story, the notification dialog allows you to simply “take” the previous one directly from the form
  • Media picker now starts loading only after it is opened and finally loads photos from sets  as well. Searching within it starts immediately after you start typing now
  • Policy field when creating a group was made mandatory which Noovo now also tells about
  • Inserting YouTube videos into text now works as advertised again
  • Enter button won’t start uploads or submit an empty form by accident any more
  • Noovo survives adding an event without the timezone now
  • We added support for quoting in the text editor. Pressing enter inside the editor doesn’t scroll the window upwards anymore
  • We now invite you to add something else while you wait for the files to be processed and looks for titles and tags

  My Noovo

  • We removed the big header with your picture on all sub pages (photos, stories) to give more space to the actual content
  • Page for adding widgets looks slightly nicer now
  • Photo gallery widget received Noovo-tailored buttons
  • Private profiles prohibit indexing to Google and other search engines
  • We added the My Favorites widget for your Noovo as well as a feature that displays your favorites per type on the public pages (stories, events, photos, videos)

  Radar

  • You can finally start reading LOLcats in Noovo: stories from RSS sources now come with images if they contain it
  • Rarely updated sources are now scanned more frequently
  • We added a page to show all external sources
  • Noovo “finds” known sources again. Meaningless pagination element is gone  on that page
  • Found sources in Subscriptions now point to appropriate sources. When you use one of those Channel pages, the links on the story pages finally contain other stories from that particular feed + they open under feed’s umbrella
  • Languages of events from language-specific feeds are now better identified
  • Popular filter no longer lists sources and people
  • Experience for users with no subscriptions is slightly nicer now
  • All sources without a logo now get the default RSS icon, description of a source is better organized

  Groups and friends

  • Friendship invitations now lead directly to the decision making page and no longer nag with that pesky »where do you know her from« dialog
  • Invitations widget now leads to the invitations page that is easier to use and the default message there is the one actually received by the invitee
  • Sharing by email doesn't freeze the form if you forget to add a recipient
  • Deleting or ignoring messages no longer causes errors and replies are properly counted
  • Messages don’t duplicate anymore
  • Stealth groups now don’t appear in any lists, honest!

  Search

  • Introducing time limitations! Look for stories on a given topic that were reported today, this week or this month!
  • We introduced additional support for exotic characters, i.e. Noovo understands both “sreča” and “sreca” now.
  • Search should feel slightly speedier and doesn’t find as many things that don’t exist any more

  General

  • The login form remembers you by default and always shows the Forgotten password link
  • The default welcome message is now delivered within Noovo as well
  • Status updates are no longer referred to as »information«, and “starred” action became “star it”, posts are now consistently referred to as stories. We made tenses for activity verbs consistent.
  • The default user skin is somewhat nicer and some dialogs and controls were cleaned up
  • Some texts have been revised and translations improved
  • Footer is now smaller
  • Language settings now load much faster and also contain previously missing Bulgarian
  • Links to files in messages work now
  • Noovo is less mysterious about why it is not possible to change you email address
  • We improved support for Internet Explorer, including version 6
