  • Noovo Early Spring Version Due This Monday!

    Matej 1 year ago | Comment (13)

    Dear Noovites,

I wish to thank you for your patience with the recently somewhat slower and less reliable Noovo. We've been working hard to resolve many issues around performance and usability. The service may be down for several hours during the Monday release.

    What to expect:

    • Radar is coming back with vengeance! Finally, you might actually enjoy following external (rss) feeds in Noovo for their freshness and snappiness. A release after this one, Radar pages will start keeping track of what you read and providing recommendations.
    • We have subtly redesigned the Home page, streams and controls. This is  the first step towards deeper changes aimed at easier reading and contributing. However, some buttons will be temporary gone from the Home page until the next release.
    • Submitting and reposting stories will be completely different now: instead of creating copies, Noovo will create links to the original. This should greatly improve the recommendations and defragment comments that are now randomly scattered among several copies of republished stories.
    • Two-way syncing with Flickr and blogs will work as it always should have.
    • Several big changes under the hood should make Noovo feel much faster.
    • New users will find some friendly guides that will point out key features around the site.
    • We finally added a music player.

    Have a great weekend,

    Matej

  • The rise of the “Implicit” Internet

Andrej 1 year ago | Comment

By Josh Kopelman (from the Churchill Club Top Ten Trends Debate via Steve Jurvetson)

The rise of the “Implicit” Internet. Historically, the web delivered most of its value by satisfying explicit user actions – a user entered a search query on Google, a user entered a review on Yelp, a user added their friends on Facebook.

However, as people spend more time online (and perform more of their activities online), they are leaving a trail of “digital breadcrumbs” exposing data about themselves. The result is an immense amount of implicit data on a user. Netflix knows what movies I watch and like. Apple knows what music I purchase and listen to…

However, until now that data has existed in silos. There has been no easy way for me (as a user) to access and benefit from that data. The next big wave of Internet value creation will come to those companies that can deliver value based on the implicit use of these data sources - by taking advantage of these existing data repositories in novel ways.

(o.p., companies such as Noovo ;-)

  • Noovo: A Symbol For World Peace

Andrej 1 year ago | Comment

As I am writing this, I feel like, a time may come when Noovo is so popular that it may be used as a symbol for world peace. The idea behind it all would be, if we can be friends in the cyber world why not in real life?

More on: Hm, Noovo and Others.

  • Silicon Moon: Noovo and Plinky... Next Wave of Publishing Tools for Lazy People

Andrej 1 year ago | Comment

I like where Noovo going because it provides a filter for the growing streams of content from the vast digital world along with a publishing platform that you can share with your friends or the general public.

It allows for lazy people like me to easily find and share their discoveries from the web or personal content from their blog, Twitter, Flickr and other multimedia services. One way they make it easy is on their "cover" page where you can see a list of articles, choose one that you want to post and share, and then just click to add it to your Noovo profile.

Review by The Social Commerce Blog. Help by voting for the story (buzz up).

Overall, Noovo is a great site with some awesome strengths for those who can’t live without content sharing. It won’t replace your social networking, but it can augment it. Definitely a good find.

  • Noovo Front Page..

    Re-posting a user's email:

I really love the design with the photos and Hot on Noovo front page right now. But, can I see that after I logged in? It's a great way to see the activity, very tantalizing.

    Cheers, Myah

Thanks, Myah - yes, there's a surprise coming very soon which will organize content in similarly attractive and much more relevant way for registered users. Stay tuned!

If anyone of you would like to participate as a tester in the alpha of Noovo 2, please comment to this post.

  • The Future of Social Media

What is social media heading for in 2009 and will it learn from its own mistakes?

  • Noovo, a confused social discovery service - Ars Technica

    Andrej 1 year ago | Comment (2)

Additional coverage - by a respected online journal Ars Technica. Honest and objective- we're very aware of the weaknesses and look forward to get even more feedback from our early users.

And I like "confused", because it represents our experimentation efforts and fast iterations. Some more confused prototyping is on its way. But the purpose is clear - help you collect, organize and present any content on the web in a smart and simple way.

Social discovery services are rising to the challenge of helping us navigate the Web, and Noovo is the latest entry in the space. As one of the most ambitious efforts to date, however, it has a lot to offer over the competition, but a lot of thinking to do as well.

  • Weinberger’s wisdom

Matej 1 year ago | Comment

David Weinberger at Burda’s DLD in Munich says knowledge, as we’ve traditionally known or referred to it, is singlar, binary, simple, scarce, and settled. Those properties of knowledge, he says, are, not by accident, are also the properties of the book. We think with our things. Knowledge, in short, was atoms. So now, we’re digitizing and connecting in an age of abundance. There’s an abundance of good and of crap but, he says, we’re much better at dealing with the abundance of crap. Yes, we filter it, kill it. David says that when there’s an abundance of good, our institutions are not built for it. “Control does not scale,” he says, “except at tremendous human costs.” Damn, he’s good at setting down the clear law. Control does not scale. Next: “The mess is essential.” The mess is the better reflection of who we are. In the era of scarcity, knowledge is limited in the book but online links and the ethic of the link are the means of generosity with abundance.

  • ReadWriteWeb reviews Noovo: "Tumblr on Steroids"

    Matej 1 year ago | Comment (5)

It's fair to say that these issues arise because Noovo has so many features - one could argue too many. But that also may end up its strength, because if you're looking for a central place to aggregate, share and discover cool content on the Web - Noovo could be a great choice for you.

  • Will Someone Please Invent iTunes for News?

“Free is not a business model,” said Mr. Moffett of Bernstein. “It sounded good and everybody got excited about it, but when you look around, it is clear that is creating havoc and will not work in the long term.”
