All Paolo Roversi needed to turn a simple shoot into a wicked fairytale was a roughly pinned-up sheet and a projector throwing shadows on a wall. Sometimes it's the simplest of concepts that work the best, and this shoot ...

  • The Olsen empire strikes back with luxury denim!

Madelene 40 days ago | Comment

Les twins Olsen are fast becoming a force to behold behind the scenes of this competitive fashion biz. With not one, not two, but three, yes three, fashion lines under their studded vintage belts, Ashley and Mary-Kate have thought it fit to add a fourth – and this one is all about the denim.

So, let us recap. The Row – that’s their slick and grown-up line, full of perfectly tailored jackets, sexy tube dresses and lots and lots of fash-pack favourite, black! Then there’s Elizabeth and James – with a slightly lower price point and a younger following, E&J is relaxed and fun, creating all those basics that fill the holes in your wardrobe. Which means slouchy jersey separates as well as cute luxed-up little beauties like bejewelled skirts or flirty floral frocks. Next up is Olsenboye – not for boys, but definitely for outdoorsy teen girls who like their clothes cute and simple.

So, with most corners of the market covered the next logical step would be luxury denim. Sitting under the Elizabeth and James umbrella, the collection is named ‘Textile’ and will be inspired by the denim already lounging in the girls’ wardrobes. Apparently one pair dates all the way back to high school (Ok, point one: can anyone remember how incredibly uncool the Olsens were as teenagers? Point two: anyone else feeling a bit depressed that they can’t fit into their own teen jeans?) But judging from the denim they've been wearing out and about recently (see above for all their fabulous bohemian glory) and names like ‘Stevie’ and ‘Hendrix’ being tagged to the new designs, we’re already hooked. Plus, if they’re half as flattering as the cut on their signature black blazers, our butts are gonna look amazing in these ones! [WWD]

  • 'Insulting and irresponsible': Nicole Richie blasts claims she suffered from an eating disorder

Madelene 45 days ago | Comment

These sizzling pictures of Nicole Richie give little clue to the weight issues which have plague her recent years.

With a tiny Size Zero frame giving her a severe case of 'lollipop head' syndrome, fans had become concerned for her health, insisting she had become too thin.

But Nicole, who is at her curviest best after having two children with boyfriend Joel Madden, has come forward to reassure fans she has always been healthy.

The 28-year-old also took the opportunity to blast critics who had accused her of suffering from an eating disorder.

She said: 'I felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t. It’s extremely insulting and irresponsible.

‘An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease.'

The reality television star, who is the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, dropped to Size Zero before falling pregnant with her first child.

At her skinniest, she was pictured on a beach in 2006 and became the reluctant poster girl for Hollywood's obsession with weight loss.

But since daughter Harlow's arrival nearly two years ago, she has looked altogether healthier.

Her second child, son, Sparrow, was born four months ago and Mother Nature's impact has been even more dramatic.

Nicole previously revealed she is naturally skinny, and sometimes finds it difficult to put on weight.

She said: 'I think when you see me in person, you see that I'm, like, five foot one - I’m a small person.

'When I was heavier, everyone said I was too heavy. You can't win in the public eye and I find it really hard. So I ignore it now, I really do.

'The only time it bothered me was when I was in a store trying on shoes and these girls came up to me - they were probably like 13 or 14 - and their mother came over, and she said, "Are you taking care of yourself, because my girls think that you're not." That was upsetting.'

Nicole is currently preparing to kickstart her acting career as the star of a new TV sitcom.

Having previously appeared in reality series The Simple Life, Nicole will return to the small screen for a half-hour show, which she pitched to bosses at U.S. channel ABC earlier this year.

She will also produce the series, in which she stars as a working woman juggling her family and love life.

  • Couture Fashion Week: Armani Prive's other worldly goddesses

Madelene 48 days ago | Comment

It was a stellar evening at Armani Prive. There was Tina Turner. We know she is in her 70’s but even in the unforgivingly bright Armani light she looked no more than 50. And there was Anne Hathaway looking very loved up with her baby faced boyfriend, Adam Schulman. No doubt there was some window shopping going on for awards season. She can’t have been disappointed. For when he is on form there isn’t much to beat an Armani on the red carpet. And when a rising star needs to advertise her graduation from promising newcomer to serious thesp, he is the go-to man for a gown with gravitas. I predict there’ll be a lot of Armani on the red carpet this season. For after a year of illness and plagued by speculation as to whether he will continue at the head of his 26billion euro company or downshift in favour of a successor, Giorgio Armani was seriously on form. Giorgio Armani PriveGiorgio Armani PriveGiorgio Armani Prive The show had a running stellar theme with lapels of jackets and frills of dresses cut in crescent moon shapes. Hi tech fabrics sparkled in the spotlights. And ‘Aurora Borealis’ embroideries were noted in the programme. The silhouette was skinny and sinuous: tightly tailored jackets with sculpted shoulders went over skinny trousers kicking out into a narrow flare over very high shoes. Cocktail dresses followed the same skinny line with vertical frills and trims curving like waves over the length of the body. Armani couture But it was the finale gowns that had the audience gasping. Hi tech fabrics that could hold a sculpted fullness and still look light as a feather were cut in almost catwalk wide skirts. Trimmed with opalescent paillettes or sprinkled with tiny sequins, they didn’t so much grab attention as suck it out of the room. Alternating with narrow floor length columns with necklines rising like some exotic flower around the shoulders, Armani made his models look like other worldly goddesses that, you’d quite like to get to know, in spite of their chilly chicness. Mr A….it was a hit. - Paula Reed in Paris
